The Ohio State University

The Architecture Section of the Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University seeks forward-looking candidates for the Howard E. LeFevre ’29 Fellowship, a two-year appointment supporting an emerging architect in developing an ambitious research project addressing contemporary questions in architecture.

The fellowship provides time, resources, and an intellectually engaged setting for work that expands the boundaries of the discipline. Fellows pursue focused research alongside related teaching and public programming, with access to extensive fabrication, research, and exhibition facilities. Past LeFevre Fellows have pursued widely varied forms of architectural research, including work in emerging media and technologies, experimental material assemblies, architectural history and theory, and climate-responsive design.

Situated within a major research university, the Knowlton School combines a strong design culture with work in technology, fabrication, representation, history and theory, and contemporary social and environmental questions. The school and university are located in Columbus, a growing metropolitan area of more than two million people.

The successful applicant will receive two consecutive nine-month appointments over two academic years. Fellows are expected to develop a substantial body of original research; teach studios and/or seminars related to that work; develop a public exhibition; deliver a public lecture; and contribute to the intellectual life of the school through workshops, symposia, or other forms of public programming.

Support includes salary for the teaching appointment, a paid research assistant, funding for research and project materials, and a budget for events and programming.

Applicants must hold a terminal degree in architecture or a closely allied discipline and demonstrate the ability to initiate and develop an original research, design, or creative project, as well as a commitment to inclusive and engaged architectural education. Prior teaching experience is not required.

Immigration/visa sponsorship may be available in very limited situations and is subject to evaluation of complexity and risk.

Application review begins November 1, 2026 and continues until the position is filled.
